The Lansing Concert Band is a community band with a rich history spanning over 50 years in the mid-Michigan area. Today the all volunteer, seventy-five piece, adult concert band is a first-class performing ensemble, appearing in many concerts, festivals and civic functions throughout the year. This non-profit organization's charter is to serve Lansing and surrounding communities by providing quality musical entertainment and a vehicle with which adult musicians can continue to perform and expand their musical horizons.

Activities

The band's year-round activities have included traditional holiday concerts, children's concerts at MSU's Wharton Center Great Hall attended by over 2500 elementary students from Lansing and surrounding communities, pops concerts, and performances for graduation exercises, outdoor park concerts, and other community events. For the past 20 years, the band has been featured in concert at the City of Lansing's Independence Day celebration at Riverfront Park.

Awards

On July 4, 1994, the John Phillip Sousa Foundation presented the Lansing Concert Band with the Sudler Silver Scroll, North America's most prestigious award for community concert bands. This international award recognizes community concert bands of outstanding musical excellence. At that time, the Lansing Concert Band joined just eight other organizations nationwide to have received this much sought after honor. In April 1998, LCB was one of a select group of concert bands honored by an invitation to perform for the prestigious twentieth Annual National Convention of the Association of Concert Bands at Lisle, Illinois.
