Registration is now open for the 2017 edition of our Young Person's Introduction to the Band Concert. This year’s concert theme is “America’s Musical Heritage.” We will present some famous and not-so-famous songs from America's past. Explore the historical significance and cultural roots of American folk music, and why many are still played and sung today. This concert will deepen students’ understanding of the importance of music in our lives – even if they are not professional musicians. The concert also emphasizes the fun of making music in a concert band and introduces students to the variety of instruments in the band. Pat Madden, the well-known local folk singer, will be our special guest. Our goal is to present a program that is exciting for students and that will encourage them to pursue or continue playing an instrument –from the earliest years right through the retirement years. Members of our band range in age from 19 to 90!
There is no admission fee for this year's program, thanks to a generous grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, and additional financial support from members of the Lansing Concert Band. However, all attendees must register their classes using the registration link to the right.
The concert study guide will be available soon!
