Dr. Gary T. Sullivan
Dr. Gary Sullivan is the current Artistic Director and Conductor of the Lansing Concert Band. Enjoying a professional music career spanning thirty-five years, he has conducted, taught, performed, and composed for thousands of musicians, ranging from public school students to university and professional performers. His previous positions included music faculty positions at Ohio northern University, Adrian College, north Branch High School; graduate teaching assistant at Miami University; and twenty-seven years as Director of Bands in Charlotte, Michigan, conducting first division award-winning bands in concert, marching and jazz. The Charlotte Bands under his direction received many awards, placed first in numerous national concert festivals, and appeared at several association conventions and university wind conferences. Under his leadership, the Charlotte Symphony Band performed four times at the Midwestern Conference, conducted bi-annual national tours, and hosted numerous artists and visiting ensembles.
Committed to music education, Dr. Sullivan has served as a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Central Michigan University and has presented clinics and workshops for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, the Music Educator’s national Conference, and for the American School Band Director’s Association. He has and/or currently holds memberships in several music organizations including the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers, the American School Band Director’s Association, the Music Educator’s national Conference, the College Music Society, the American Federation of Musicians, the national Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, the national Band Association, the College Band Director’s national Association, and the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.
