Young Person's Introduction to the Band 2018
Tuesday, February 27, 2018 10:00am, Wharton Center for the Performing Arts (map)
Tuesday, February 27, 2018, 1:00pm, Charlotte Performing Arts Center (Charlotte classes only)

Registration is now open for the 2018 edition of our Young Person''s Introduction to the Band Concert. This year’s concert theme is “Emotions in Music.” We will explore how music can stimulate a wide range of human emotions, such as love, happiness, joy, sadness, fear, and patriotism. This concert will deepen students’ understanding of the importance of music in our lives – even if we are not musicians. The program also emphasizes the fun of making music in a band and introduces students to the variety of instruments in the modern concert band. Student artwork will be an important part of this year’s concert. Our goal is to present a program that is exciting for students and that will encourage them to pursue or continue playing an instrument –from their earliest years right through retirement. Members of our band range in age from 21 to 81!

There is no admission fee for this year''s program, thanks to a generous grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, and additional financial support from members of the Lansing Concert Band. However, all attendees must register their classes using the registration link to the right.

The teachers guide is now available. Download a pdf version here, or you can download it at the iBooks Store Get it on iBooks Badge

This year, we will display student artwork during the concert. Details about this activity can be found in the study guide. Click here to access a YouTube playlist of the concert selections. Use this playlist with your students as they create their artwork.
